ELIGIBILITY:
To be eligible to compete, cadets must be current CAP members and registered for the Cadet Conference. Teams must have the number of cadets specified in the Operations Order.

FEE: $0.00 (Must be registered for Cadet Conference)

APPLICATION PROCEDURE:
TBD

DEADLINE:
TBD

UNIFORM:
Short-sleeve blues with ribbons and all earned awards and devices. No ties.

RULES:

1.  Questions would cover Ach 1-8, current aerospace events, chain of command, CAP history, and general CAP knowledge.

2.  Team match up will be selected at random.

3.  Teams will be sequestered.

COMPETITION FORMAT:

The preferred competition format is round-robin, however the number of teams competing and schedule time constraints will determine the final format. The past several years has seen a single elimination format due to the large number of participants.

TEAM MEMBER INSTRUCTIONS:

1. This competition will consist of 10 TOSS-UP questions. There will be no intentional trick questions. This is a test of knowledge and speedy recall.  The first five (5) TOSS-UP questions are worth 10 points each.  The last five (5) TOSS-UP questions are worth 15 points each. BONUS questions are all worth 5 points.

2. The team that signals first will be allowed to give the answer to the question. Cadetsshould not answer until the panel quiz judge recognizes them. The cadet who is recognized without discussion or hesitation must answer the question. Prefacing the answer by repeating or paraphrasing the question will be deemed a delay in answering and will be counted as an incorrect answer. Repeating the question or answering before the judge recognizes the participant will result in an incorrect answer regardless of the answer content.

3. Once a team has signaled by buzzing in, the judge will stop reading the question. Be cautious not to buzz in too early.

4. The panel quiz judge’s decision is final as to whether an answer is correct and complete. The judge may, however, refer to the timekeeper and scorekeeper for advice as to the validity of an answer.

5. If a team member answers incorrectly before the reading of the question is completed, the panel quiz judge will read the entire question, from the beginning, for the benefit of the other team. If the question was read in its entirety to the first team, it will not be repeated. The second team must press the buzzer to signal their intention to answer the question. An incorrect answer on any of the first 5 questions will be assessed a 10-point penalty.  An incorrect answer on any of the last 5 questions will be assessed a 15-point penalty.  Again, discussion is not allowed between team members when answering TOSS-UP questions.

6. The first team to answer a TOSS-UP question correctly will earn the team 10 or points, depending on the question number, and the opportunity to answer a 5-point BONUS question. Approximately 10 seconds will be allowed for team discussion when answering the BONUS question. There is no need to signal before answering the BONUS question. The team member who begins answering at the end of the 10-second discussion must be the one to complete the answer. There is no penalty for incorrectly answering a BONUS question. If the first team to buzz in answers incorrectly, the other team has an opportunity to answer, but will not have an opportunity for a bonus question.

7. In the event of a tie score at the end of the 10 TOSS-UP questions, the contest will go into "Sudden Death" with TOSS-UP questions worth 15 points being asked until a correct or incorrect answer is given.

8. You will be given the opportunity to test your buzzers prior to the start of the round.

9. Judges error: In case of an error in reading the question or in recording the scoring, the judge will make amends as appropriate to the judge. Solutions such as tossing out a misread question and redoing a question are viable alternatives.

JUDGES:

1 Judge to ask questions (CAP)

1 Judge to maintain room (CAP)

1 Timer/Scorer (CAP)

AWARDS:

The Overall Winner will win the Lt Col Tom Welch Academic Award. Teams placing as first and second runner-ups will also be recognized.
